A ground robotic system from Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps successfully evacuated a 77-year-old elderly woman from the Lyman region in Ukraine.
According to a report by the Ukrainian outlet Militarnyi, the information was shared by the Army Corps itself, which posted a video of the operation on its Facebook page.
According to the Corps’ press service, the elderly woman had tried to leave the danger zone on her own, passing spent cartridges and the bodies of dead villagers, with almost no chance of escape without assistance.
Soldiers from the Cerberus unmanned ground systems company took part in the woman’s evacuation, while the movement of the system was coordinated with the support of a reconnaissance drone.
To avoid frightening the elderly woman, the ground robotic system was covered with a blanket bearing the inscription: “Grandma, sit down!”. The evacuated woman is 77 years old, 53 of which she spent living in the house that was destroyed by the invaders.
Three more civilians who were evacuating on foot were escorted to the evacuation point by drones. From there, fighters from the 1st Mechanized Battalion transported them out of the combat zone in an armored vehicle and handed them over to civil-military cooperation units.
Ground robotic systems are being used increasingly often for evacuation operations directly on the front line. Recently, it was reported that two MAUL ground drones equipped with an armored capsule evacuated six wounded soldiers from the front line in a single day.
